A Sunrise Senior Session with Laine | Ooltewah High School Class of 2027

There is nothing quite like starting the day before the sun gets hot, coffee in hand, camera ready, for a session of Ooltewah High School senior pictures. That was our morning with Laine, my sweet senior rep for the class of 2027.

We met up at 7:30 in the morning for a sunrise summer session, and Chattanooga gave us the best gift a photographer could ask for: a soft, overcast sky that turned into the most gorgeous natural light. No harsh shadows, no squinting, just pretty light from start to finish. The temperature never even climbed above 75 degrees. It was, in every sense, a perfect day to be outside with a camera.

Golden Fields and a Solid Blue Dress

We started in an open field, with wildflowers, long grass, and a soft mountain backdrop. Laine wore a solid blue halter dress with a tiered skirt that caught the breeze every time she moved, and it might be my favorite look of the whole session. Add in a bouquet wrapped in burlap ribbon, and every frame from this location felt as if from a storybook.

Vultures and the Prettiest Rocks in Town

Next stop was the boat ramp, and this is where the morning turned into one of my favorite behind-the-scenes stories to tell. We pulled in, parked, and immediately noticed a whole crowd of vultures hanging around the dock. A little creepy already. Then we figured out why: there was a dead fish sitting right next to the ramp, clearly somebody’s breakfast. So we spent this whole part of the session laughing our way through a genuinely awful smell while trying to look elegant for the camera. Somehow it worked, because you would never guess from these photos that we were holding our breath half the time.

Smell aside, the rocks by the water were beautiful, and Laine’s white dress with its blue floral pattern was perfect against the green water and the hazy mountain line behind her.

Butter Yellow at the Common House

From there we drove into downtown Chattanooga to the Common House, and Laine’s outfit changes kept getting better. She wore the cutest butter-yellow two-piece set, and it went so well with the white Spanish-style walls and the old wooden doors of the building. This was one of those “the outfit was made for the location” moments that I live for.

Red, Denim, and a Little Downtown Charm

We wrapped up the session by walking through a few storefronts we found downtown, and Laine changed one more time into blue jeans and a red ruffled top that she absolutely popped against the white courtyard walls. Then, for the very last look, she wore the cutest black-and-white polka-dot top with white jeans for a few final frames under a red-and-white striped awning. It was such a sweet, easy way to end the morning.

A Perfect Day, Stinky Boat Ramp and All

Between the early wake-up call, the overcast sky that gave us the dreamiest light, the vultures, and five outfits that could not have suited their spots any better, this session had everything. Chattanooga really could use some work on its summer smell situation, but you would never know it from how relaxed and radiant Laine looks in every single frame. Honestly, I could not have asked for a better morning or a better senior to spend it with.

Choosing the right location is one of the most important parts of creating senior pictures you’ll love for years to come.

Whether you’re dreaming of sunrise fields, downtown Chattanooga, your high school campus, or an adventurous mountain overlook, I’d love to help bring your vision to life.
